TriCaster, 3Play and AJA Kumo 6464 Router Power Week-long Off-Road Racing Coverage

May 24, 2018 by Chuck Baker

For several years now, HammerKing Productions has teamed a variety of AJA and NewTek video production equipment to provide coverage of the King of Hammers premier ULTRA4 off-road racing event under harsh outdoor conditions. For 2018, mainstays were a TriCaster® multi-camera integrated live production system, a 3Play® multi-camera synchronized replay, slow-motion and video server production system and the AJA KUMO 6464 3G-SDI 64 in/64 out video router. 22 cameras plus assorted computer systems provided the inputs to the production. In addition, helicopters with cameras and AJA recording devices captured footage from the air and brought that in to the OB truck to add to the production.

The outputs from the TriCaster and 3Play went back into the video router and from there to a number of encoding and streaming devices, as well as to Jumbotrons and displays for the spectators at the Start/Finish line. The combination of flexible and powerful NewTek and AJA production systems with thorough integration thus allowed for multi-destination distribution of the live sports production. Since the TriCaster and 3Play integrated production systems both include graphics and keying, they allow for customized branding for productions engaging multiple destination distribution.
