Sienna NDI® Applications Released
April 06, 2016 by Chuck Baker
NewTek has been working with developers toward two primary goals since announcing the forthcoming Network Device Interface™ (NDI®) SDK. The first goal was to ensure that existing systems using NDI precursor technologies would work with the new SDK with no need for updates. The additional goal was to enable developers to quickly bring out new products that take advantage of the advances built into the new SDK. The first goal is already confirmed as accomplished, as the new NDI technology is now in the field and working perfectly with existing products that support IP workflow with NewTek systems and tools.
And right on the heels of NewTek’s release of the NDI SDK, Gallery and IEC released a suite of NDI® applications for Sienna, their Newsroom, Sport, Live Event and Multi-camera production system used by major broadcast and corporate video clients worldwide. The applications cover iOS devices and Mac OSX operating systems, enabling users to integrate content from these devices and systems into their productions via an easy, powerful IP workflow. The applications include a web browser for iPad that sends its window display over the network for use as a source on NDI-enabled switchers, editors, recorders or other production tools; an application for streaming the display of an iPhone via NDI; and OSX test signal generator and screen streamer applications. They have also announced more NDI tools that are coming soon.
This is just the first salvo of new NDI applications and NDI-enabled production tools. Over 200 developers have signed on to the NewTek Developer Network to integrate NewTek NDI into their products and to develop NDI applications. The release of the NDI SDK immediately put powerful capabilities to use a wide range of networked devices and systems as an everyday part of video production into user’s hands, and hundreds of developers are now working to multiply those capabilities exponentially.
