The 150-year-old Philadelphia landmark, Cathedral Basilica of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, was chosen to host a Papal Mass during the Pope’s recent visit to the United States. Installing modern AV equipment into construction of this age is always a challenge, but a historic house of worship about to be on display to a world audience presents more than the usual set of aesthetic and technical hurdles.

The heart of Master Control is the NewTek TriCaster 860 Switcher and, because (director Daniel) Kearns had experience operating it on other projects, the TriCaster was a natural fit. “I like the features in the NewTek, especially graphics that can be used for live streaming, such as scripture citations and texts for the Gloria and Creed, while still providing a clean camera mix feed to the media without graphics,” explained Kearns.
